Located on Amterdam’s upmarket shopping street, P.C. Hooftstraat 94, the Crystal Houses project, which was designed by design and architectural firm, MVRDV, is a high-end flagship store. The structure boasts an entirely transparent façade, using glass bricks, glass windows, frames and glass architraves, creatively jarring against it’s traditional surrounding architecture. This cleverly aligns with the city’s aim to have entirely unique flagship stores, without compromising on the historically-rich traditional ensemble of buildings. The 630 m2 of retail and 220 m2 creation was commissioned by investor Warenar Real Estate. Crystal Houses also won the category award for Shopping at the Word Architecture Festival as well as the Glass Innovation Award and the Public Award at the Dutch Design Awards.

Have a further look at how the structure came together…
