According to analytics company TEMAX, the UK market of home appliances closed the last year with a value growth of 2.8% for the major appliances sector and an increase of 0.4% for small domestic devices. While wine cabinets and cooker hoods were said to have showed most promise.
TEMAX tracks the sales of technical consumer goods in 40+ countries. The findings are based on GfK’s retail panel, comprising data from around half a million retail outlets worldwide. GfK continually works to ensure its panel data is as accurate as possible, in terms of its representation of the end market.
Consumer electronics and Brown Goods recorded a growth of 1.4%, while the total market of technical consumer goods (TCG) marked an increase by 5.3%. Although the overall trend is positive, only some segments closed the year with a good performance.
As reported by GfK, among these, consumers in the United Kingdom showed a particular predilection for kitchen appliances such as wine cabinets and cooker hoods.
In the final part of 2017, small domestic appliances were driven especially by vacuum cleaners, but also hair dryers, dental care, kettles, toasters and hot beverage makers recorded a good fourth quarter.
Finland and Denmark witnessed double digit growth in consumer electronics, while Portugal, Greece and UK presented a higher single-digit sales increase.
Full Automatic Coffee Machines were found to be another significant growth driver, achieving further relevance in all Western European countries (AT, BE, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR, GR, IT, NL, PT, SE, UK).
