40% of Brits have a dedicated space for their drinks collection – Wickes

Research carried out by Wickes has revealed that 40% of Brits have a dedicated space for their drinks collection, however, the home bar of today is not the veneered stand-alone in the corner of the lounge, but more likely to be found in the kitchen.

Wickes have also witnessed a significant increase in sales of wine coolers and wine racks over the last twelve months, up 48% and 28% year-on-year, whilst other home entertainment products have also shown incremental growth.

TV presenter and property expert Phil Spencer comments: “The kitchen is often the hub of any house, and with more of us embracing the idea of hosting and entertaining at home and spending even more time in the kitchen, we’re seeing people investing in the extra touches which really give it that personal feel.”

As modern lifestyles have changed over the last few decades, the shift in room usage is also reflected in the investment and décor which is now bestowed on the kitchen, with a quarter who use their kitchen for activities other than cooking agreeing that they like to use it, as its ‘a nicer living area than the rest of the house.’

  • General entertaining (22%)
  • As a general living room (14%)
  • Doing arts, crafts, and hobbies (11%)
  • Online shopping (10%)
  • Watching films and TV (8%)
