Marble played a big part in the restoration and remodel of this waterfront apartment in Lisbon, Portugal. Rita Aguiar Rodrigues, an architect at rar.studio, chose the striking natural stone to help transform the property’s existing bathroom into a show-stopping ensuite. The room is modern in style, while still paying homage to the building’s distinguished heritage.
The property’s existing bathroom was dramatically altered, transforming it into a luxurious ensuite. Its redesign saw the existing doorway blocked and a new entry point added from the master bedroom. A separate larger family bathroom was then created for the remainder of the house.
Monochromatic marble was used to dramatic effect in the ensuite bathroom. Book-matched Portuguese tiger skin marble features prominently across the far wall, creating a striking focal point and a practical backdrop for the shower. Beneath the nearby window, a bespoke basin made of the same material creates coherence and a natural flow between the basin and shower area.
The freestanding bath is from GSI Ceramica’s Pura collection; aged larch wood flooring offsets its modern, minimalist aesthetic. A dramatic ceiling hung shower curtain accentuates the room’s lofty height while offering a stylish solution to prevent water splashes. A matching loo, traditional wall hung radiator and bespoke mirror complete the room’s delicate, attractive aesthetic.
