After a decade of living with their existing kitchen, homeowners Sara and Gerard decided the time had come for change. A sizeable extension paved the way for Daniele Brutto, co-founder of Hub Kitchens and the couple’s designer of choice, to create a generous kitchen that skillfully blurred the divide between the cooking space and the adjacent living area.
What was the brief?
Sara: “I wanted the kitchen to be very practical with lots of workspace and easily accessible storage. We love to cook and entertain, so it was important the kitchen was ergonomically perfect as well as socialable.”
What look were you going for?
Daniele: “Super contemporary and modernist with a mixture of materials.”
Tell us about the kitchen
Daniele: “The units are from the Ainoa range by Record Cucine. They are completely handleless, with Blum soft-close drawers and hinges. The shelving system at the rear of the island is completely bespoke to allow for the combination of veneered shelves and the Corian worktop. The white kitchen units are in Bianco Ghiaccio matt lacquer, while the dark grey kitchen units are in Grigio Ghisa gloss lacquer.”
Are you pleased with the design?
Daniele: “The colours work brilliantly. I love the way the matt white kitchen units allow the rest of the space to really pop. Nothing in the space takes over as such; everything has a subtle purpose and blends beautifully with the next piece.”
Are you happy with the end result?
Sara: “The kitchen is now a social space. It has changed the way we entertain and it feels so much friendlier. The difference now is that we can both enjoy ourselves when we have our friends round for dinner, instead of one of us being stuck in the kitchen!”
