Contemporary, curvaceous and with a dash of colour, this simple yet striking kitchen design by Stoneham Kitchens delighted its owners.
The ambitious project was based in a 4 bedroom detached house dating back to the 1930s, in Beckenham, Kent. A modern, spacious and light-filled space was the desire of this professional couple; to suit their busy lives and two grown children, the kitchen had to both succeed in style and functionality. To craft the perfect canvas, a considerable amount of construction and building work had to be completed, including the installation of a skylight and bi-folding doors.
Once flooded with natural sunlight, and with the direct connection to the garden blurring the boundaries between the inside and outside spaces, it was time think about kitchen colours, shapes and styles. Fortunately, designer Phil Haines of Stoneham Kitchens was on hand to help create the homeowners’ dream design. The kitchen is a beautiful blend of Stoneham’s Vibe and Flow Silk ranges and is shown in a simple combination of Anthracite Oak and Dark Grey finishes. The handleless furniture, curved-edge island and monochromatic colour scheme ensures the kitchen exudes a very contemporary vibe, while subtle splashes of colour – including the knife block, colourfully upholstered dining chairs and the lush green views of the garden – enliven the pale surroundings.
Practicality is provided by the ample storage space, integrated induction hob, retractable downdraft extractor and Quooker steaming water tap. To match these high-tech accessories, integrated LED underlighting within the island and remote-controlled colour changing lighting surrounding the space gives a slight futuristic feel. Ultimately this space balances character, colour and contemporary design in perfect harmony.
