This Victorian home in Chelmsford, Essex needed a chic contemporary kitchen that would work as a living hub for the homeowners and their family. The couple turned to Peter Humphrey and the team at Humphrey Munson to create a simple yet elegant scheme that would make full use of the capacious room.
With two young children, the homeowners wanted a space that would work both on an everyday basis, but also for entertaining friends and family. The Spenlow collection from Humphrey Munson successfully crafted the homeowners’ vision for a timeless yet contemporary kitchen.
The rear wall is fitted with full-length Spenlow cabinetry in a simple off-white, alongside a large stainless steel fridge freezer and range cooker. The range cooker sits snugly within the chimney area, which features inset niches either side of the cooking area to store spices and condiments.
A myriad of metallic accents enliven the simple scheme, with an antique effect mirror splashback – positioned behind the range cooker – that allows the natural light from the full-length bi-folding glass doors to be bounced around the kitchen, while equally adding an edgy industrial vibe to the classical kitchen. The trio of pendant lights positioned above the island, as well as a selection of polished nickel hardware, add to this metallic tone.
Providing the primary preparation area, the central island boasts a large double butler sink, integrated dishwasher and pull-out Eurocargo bin. A trio of tall Vincent Sheppard woven chairs ensures that the island can double as a casual dining area, while reflecting the placement of the pendant lights, above – therefore creating a beautiful symmetry.
The kitchen, pantry, utility and boot room provide the homeowners with their desired practical space, while all maintaining a suitably sophisticated classic contemporary style. “The great thing about this space is that the different zones flow easily into each which means everything is to hand instantly – perfect for modern family living,” commented Peter Humphrey, lead designer on this project and Design Director and Founder of Humphrey Munson.Humphrey Munson | humphreymunson.co.uk
