A premier league footballer restores this Victorian property to its former glory

Having worked together on previous projects, interior designer Hilary Scott knew creating a stylish and sympathetic bespoke kitchen for a fascinating renovation and extension project was perfect for Julia Brown, director of Mowlem & Co.

The kitchen is housed in the property’s new contemporary extension. The cabinetry is fully bespoke, made of stained oak, which features a tight straight grain, with sleek recessed handles. Its modern worktop is made of solid surface material, Corian.

With an extensive ceiling height of four metres, the lighting was important. Dropping a floating-style canopy over the island allowed for task lighting over the cooking area via the extractor hood, with feature pendants lamps for ambiance at each end. The ceiling in the pantry was dropped to create the perfect storage space as well as a visually separate area for extra prep.

Despite the room’s tall ceilings, the floor space was quite limited.  In order to keep the proportions of the space balanced, all the units are in matching sizes.
