This week we #ThrowbackThursday to when Rebecca James of Interior Desires won the Best Use of Materials Award.
Rebecca won the Best Use of Materials Award back in 2016 for her project in which she designed a beautifully crafted marble bathroom after a client approached her to design the bathroom of their neoclassical Oxfordshire house.
Rebecca’s starting point was to source marble slabs that would complement the Aubergine and Bordeaux colour scheme.
Commenting on the design, Rebecca said, “we wanted to bring a traditional element to the room as an ode to the country location. We introduced panelled frames with ogee profiles on the vanity unit and adjacent shelve walls to give the room some depth and character. We made sure all the marble in the bathroom was book-matched which proved quite challenging when taking into account the frames which made the walls three dimensional. As the marble was very bold and masculine we wanted the rest of the elements in the room to be simple and slightly feminine.’’
It’s bathrooms like Rebecca’s that showcase the intricate craftsmanship of the marble fabricators and display the elegance of the design through the clever use of space and elegant fixtures. It has certainly raised the bar for this year’s upcoming awards.Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards | kb-eye.com/awards
