It’s always important to support emerging talents, so today we’re dedicating #ThrowbackThursday to the work of last year’s New Designer of the Year Award winner Jonathan Wing of Kitchen Connection of Ascot.
Wing was chosen for the prestigious, Blum sponsored, award thanks to his recent kitchen project in a Grade II Listed property. The client’s for this particular project desired a clean, modern style as opposed to their previous small and claustrophobic space.
“In order to accommodate the structural supports, our plan was to create a boxing to surround the tall appliance bank, making a feature of the bank and allowing us to light the back of the alcove,” explained Wing. “To celebrate the beautiful high ceilings and maximize the architecture of the room, we also added lighting above our units to create a wash of light on the back wall as well as the glass back panel to draw the eye as one enters the room.” The result of Jonathan Wing and KCA’s hard work provided this family of four with a stunning open plan kitchen space, that elegantly embraced a monochrome colour scheme.
Almost one year on, and we’ve spoken to Jonathan Wing to discuss his professional development in the design world and to find out what he’s up to at the moment. “I’m still designing kitchens,” he began, “though my design ethos has definitely developed since receiving my award last year. Excitingly, tomorrow is actually my last day at KCA; after that, I’ll be leaving to travel around South America and hopefully gain inspiration from the massive variety of different cultures, colours and trends out there, which will really broaden the horizons of my kitchen design.”
But Wing won’t be leaving the design world, “on my return,” he continued, “I’ll be joining the design team at KCA’s sister company: Extreme. I’m really looking forward to taking on new design challenges there and being involved in projects that are literally ‘extreme’.”Kitchen Connection of Ascot | k-c-a.co.uk
