Diane Berry of Diane Berry Kitchens, explains what it means to be shortlisted for a trio of awards in the Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards 2017.
“It took my breath away to hear I am nominated in three categories and that I am only the second designer to have ever achieved this. It is hard to explain the pride I feel when a group of judges looks at a selection of designers’ work and sees my work as worthy of a place in the final, it is a moment when you think thank goodness, they get me. They, as experts, can see that attention to detail is key and I just smile and thank the heavens that other people can see it and know it is right and important in design to get all the small details right.”
“At this point, I always want to thank my clients, as they let me scrutinise their needs and question time and time again their wish-list to make sure we get everything perfect for them and to try and get them to open up about their future plans so I can future-proof their kitchen. My 37 years designing has taught me to really work hard to future-proof as my goodness kitchens can date and they are so expensive to replace. I am also after all these years quite happy to say “no” to clients, as sometimes it is easy to just say yes, but at the end of the day we are the experts and we need to guide our clients to the perfect solutions. So, it is with complete delight and pride that I appreciate being shortlisted and hope I can always make my kitchens worthy of a judge’s eye. I always find myself thinking ‘is this the best I can do’ and push myself and my team to be better.”
