The interior design industry has today been shaken with the tragic news of Mark Wilkinson’s passing, aged 66, following a short battle with cancer.
Described as a “truly English ‘eccentric’”, Canburg, the parent company of Mark Wilkinson Furniture, today stated that Mark had “passed away peacefully at his home in Wiltshire surrounded by his wife and children.
Mark was renowned for his visionary ideas and his reputation as an exceptionally skilled craftsman and furniture maker. Among other accolades, he was a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers, a Fellow of the City and Guilds Institute, and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers of the City of London.
In 2010, he was awarded an OBE for Services to the Furniture Industry and Charity, as well as the Designer Award for Lifetime Achievement. Additionally, Mark also went on to be a guest speaker at our very own Designer Awards in 2011.
Commenting on Mark’s passing, Clara Perry, managing director of Pro Publishing Media & Events, stated “I am deeply shocked to hear of Mark’s passing. He has always been regarded as an esteemed member of the industry and a close personal friend of mine. I am sending my deepest sympathies to all of Mark’s family and friends and are thinking of them all at this tragic time.”
