Designer puts the questions to Carol Cameron, Senior Designer at Kitchens International

What is your job role and what made you choose a career in design?

I have been a Sales Manager and Senior Designer at Kitchens International for seven years, having previously been a Sales Designer & Design Technician.

I love architecture and design and a career in kitchen design just filled this passion.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part is creating kitchen designs for amazing spaces and seeing the clients bowled over by the design.

Which designer/product/ building most inspires your work and why?

The person that inspires me the most is Le Corbusier, the Swiss/French architect, designer and painter. I feel he was way before his time in the work that he created and designed and I love the amazing architecture and interior design that has been produced by just one individual. His designs are inspiring and timeless. Last year his name was lent to a range of Leicht kitchens so his legacy goes on.

What have you been your favourite projects so far?

My favourite project was the Ripple Retreat, which is a charity project for It’s Good 2 Give. We designed the kitchen for an amazing care facility in Stirlingshire in Scotland and I was so honoured to be involved in this project. Not only is the architecture amazing and the setting is stunning but the woman whose brainwave it was is totally inspirational. The space is purpose-built to allow children affected by cancer and their families, the opportunity to spend quality time together.

TV programmes you never miss?

I don’t watch TV much but I do like Million Dollar Listing – but only if it has Luis, Fredrik & Ryan starring!

Favourite place in the world?

Port Of Ness.

Best book you’ve ever read?

The Blackhouse by Peter May.

Which famous designer (past or present) would you most like to invite round for a cup of tea?
Can I choose two!? Le Corbusier, as he was so before his time. I love one of his quotes: “I prefer drawing to talking. Drawing is faster, and leaves less room for lies.” I would also like to invite Victoria Beckham along, obviously a complete contrast to my other choice! From a distance she inspires me, as she works extremely hard and remains focused at all times.

Outside of work, what is your passion in life?

Social media: love it or loathe it?

Loathe it. Love a proper get together with friends and good conversation.

Which three words would you use to describe yourself?

Enthusiastic, fun, humorous.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Appreciate what you have in life.
