Ann Onions of Westin reveals exclusive insights into the company’s presence at KBB

We’ve spoken to Ann Onions, Sales and Marketing Manager at Westin, about the company’s over-eight-year evolution and its presence at this year’s KBB Birmingham exhibition.

How excited are the Westin team to be exhibiting at KBB Birmingham this year?

As always, we are very excited. Everyone at Westin loves kbb Birmingham and the buzz there. We can’t believe it’s come around again already.

What can visitors expect to see when visiting the Westin stand?

Another very busy stand! We are launching a new product called ‘Harmony’ which we can’t wait to show everyone. We are also introducing our new range of finishes and textures for cooker hoods at the show – they are stunning and well worth coming to see! We will have a bespoke hood in one of the new finishes on the stand. We will have a couple of our best-selling Stratus ceiling units on the stand too. And as always, we are showcasing the magic of Westin with Kay, our lovely magician, who is back again due to popular demand… with some new tricks up her sleeve to wow visitors. We are at stand M118.

How has Westin noticed the industry evolve over the years?

Westin was established in 1921 but I have only been there since 2007. Kitchens tended to be single use rooms with very traditional furniture and a statement hood as the focal point. There was then a move to kitchens become open plan with lounge and dining areas included. This created a demand for sleek, minimalist kitchens with no handles on the cabinetry which meant discreet hidden hoods such as built-in over hob hoods and ceiling units became much more popular. Islands have become increasingly common and these are ideal for ceiling units or worktop solutions like the new Harmony. Our ceiling units have developed to become more invisible with the white painted Stratus Air with no lights.

Alongside this trend has been the increase in popularity of range cookers for serious cooks and the need for performance of hoods has driven the demand for large focal hoods and the need to source decorative finishes to make these a feature #thefinishingtouch on Stand M118.

What makes Westin stand out from its competitors?

No-one else does what we do! Westin specialises in cooker hoods and we are the only British manufacturer of cooker hoods. These factors allow us to offer a very focussed, specialist and personal service, with greater understanding of all thing extraction, including of British issues such as quirky ceiling joists. We stand out too because of the wide choice of options and specifications that our customers can benefit from, from our Westin Product core range, then onto our Westin Plus range which enables you to adapt a Westin Product hood to suit your own specification and then onto a Westin Bespoke – fully bespoke, if you want an unusual design or tailored performance, or both!  We care about giving you the very best in product and customer service – our customers tell us all the time that this makes us stand out from competitors.

Which brands/stands are Westin looking forward to checking out at KBB this year and why?

It’s not about brands and stands for us but more about looking at kitchen appliances, kitchen design and industry leaders for innovative ideas for the future. It’s also about networking with the media and other industry colleagues and enjoying the passion of kitchens and kitchen design.

Why should people stop by the Westin stand next week?

A fabulous #finishing touch giveaway, our resident female magician, key members of the team and an amazing feature hood. There are so many reasons! We have loads of exciting new innovations to show everyone as well as updates and developments to share on how our products are working successfully for our customers.  The Westin team has some great product knowledge to help you understand how extraction can work best for your client’s kitchen and their lifestyle – plus we are a friendly bunch, come and say hello and enjoy the magic of Westin!  We are on stand M118.

What advice do you have for brands who will be experiencing their first KBB exhibition?

Enjoy the show. It’s a great place to get an insider feel for the industry and experience the passion held by brands like Westin for what we do.  If you are new to kbb Birmingham, come along to stand M118 and introduce yourself, the Westin team would love to meet you.
