Bathroom furniture manufacturer, Utopia Bathrooms, has made a significant investment in a biomass energy solution at its Midlands-based manufacturing premises.
Sourced from Talbotts, a local company specialising in biomass and wood waste energy solutions, the new system uses all the offcuts and dust waste that would previously have been collected in skips and transported to landfills.
With the new system, an average of 17-20 tonnes of waste (per week) will be carried through the modified extraction system into a 20 tonne capacity storage silo. From there, the waste is fed through and burnt in a purpose-built 999kW boiler, where the generated heat will then be used to heat the factory and offices.
Speaking about the new mechanical addition, production engineering manager for Utopia Bathrooms Jon Phelps remarked “Not only do we save all the huge costs involved in sending our waste to landfill sites, we also save on our energy bills. Installing the system is also an excellent demonstration of our ongoing commitment to lower our carbon footprint.”Utopia Bathrooms | utopiagroup.com
