Heart Wood officially announced as Dulux’s Colour of the Year. The stylish shade blends warm, brown-beige tones with subtle hints of heather.
The Heart Wood hue is inspired by the tones, textures and grains of raw wood – which has been a huge hit within homes throughout this year, thanks to its natural aesthetic, comforting warmth and the instant Hygge feel it gives to any minimalist scheme. Though a mass variety of woods are used in contemporary interiors, we’ve recently seen designers leaning toward warmer timbers, with red, violet and pinkish tones running throughout, alongside prominent graining and rough, unfinished textures – a palette which is perfectly reflected in Dulux’s Heart Wood.
This striking new shade fits Dulux’s ‘mood of the moment’ for 2018, which is A Welcome Home. As the company has done for the past 15 years, Dulux gathered a panel of top-name experts in the architecture, biophilic design, technology and innovation sectors to scour the globe and discover the emerging trends for the next year, in its ColourFuture initiative. The Welcome Home theme focuses on everyone’s need to have a personal sanctuary, which we can retreat into, whether that’s on our own or with friends and family – the home should allow you to feel instantly centred, at ease and comfortable.
We asked Senior Colour and Design Expert, Rebecca Williamson, for her thoughts on Dulux’s 2018 trends predictions: “Dulux’s colour of the year for 2018, Heart Wood, is incredibly versatile, and connects beautifully with the accompanying trend palettes for the year ahead,” she said. “Providing the comfort and reassurance we’re all seeking, it’s the perfect antidote to the mood of the moment – channeling a real sense of calm and warmth during such times of uncertainty. We can’t wait to see homes across the globe transformed into true sanctuaries.”Dulux | dulux.co.uk
