From day one, the Designer Awards has had a single mission, to give credit to the amazing designers that work in the UK’s kitchen and bathroom market.
We didn’t stick a ‘design’ tag onto the title as an afterthought; it was the ONLY thought in the mind of the originator who wanted to turn the spotlight onto what were then the unsung heroes of kitchen and bathroom retailing.
14 years on, and the Designer Awards has stayed true to its original mission and once again given its judges an almost impossible task; to produce a shortlist of just three finalists per category from the hundreds of entries received at the Pro Publishing head office. It is fair to say that behind this year’s finalists there are dozens of entries that failed to make the 2016 shortlist by the slimmest of margins.
Martin Allen-Smith, Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Magazine’s editor, deserves all the plaudits for managing the herd of cats that were this year’s judging team. And it is thanks to his firm hand on the tiller, to say nothing of his thorough understanding of what makes award-winning design, that we are not still locked in room somewhere drinking far too much coffee.
kb-network.co.uk can only give you a flavour of this year’s Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards – think of it as a starter to the main course that will be served up in Designer Kitchen & Bathroom. But for now we will finish with a quote from Clara Perry, managing director of Pro Publishing Media & Events, who speaks for everyone involved with the Awards:
“My aim as a publisher has always been to support the kitchen and bathroom industry, and I feel that the Designer Awards does just that – we acknowledge exceptional design and support new designers. The Awards is a much loved and widely-respected design event that I am extremely proud to be a part of.”
