The staff of kitchen contract suppliers BK Nolte Contract (BKNC) made it through to the quarter-finals at Barratt London’s charity football event held at West Ham United’s former ground at Upton Park.
The ‘World Cup’ style 5-a-side tournament was the last football event to be played at the stadium as Barratt London commenced demolition on 28th September for a new 842 unit scheme on the site.
The BKNC team, included BKNC employees Darren Moss, ex-Shrewsbury Town player and Yemin Henock of ex-Nigerian international fame. FA qualified referees were in attendance on the day, which culminated in an awards ceremony and fundraising auction and raffle.
BKNC’s chairman, Bob Ruler said, “We are extremely proud to be involved in such a fabulous event and to play our part in helping raise funds for such worthy causes. The BKNC team played well and did a great job in making their way through to the quarter-finals. We all really enjoyed the day and thank Barratt London for organising such a wonderful event.”
The BKNC/Nolte Küchen partnership were one of two main sponsors of the event, which raised £75,000 and was attended by over 300 people. Barratt Developments PLC will match the proceeds raised from the event, which will be donated to 3 main charities: Children of Heroes, a charity focussed on educating and mentoring the children of fallen servicemen and women; MacMillan Cancer Support, the charity which aims to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK; and The Silver Line, a charity which operates the only free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people, open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Barratt London aim to redevelop Upton Park into a new development named Upton Gardens. The development will deliver 842 new homes across 15 buildings, and will consist of one-bed suites, one, two, three and four-bedroom apartments, duplexes and maisonettes alongside a range of amenities. Upton Gardens is due to launch in January 2017.
