Winner: Jonny Morris, Roundhouse
The brief for this highly distinctive kitchen was to create a connection with the buildings industrial past as a working mill in an unfitted style, but not to go down the route of a traditional country look. As the client wanted a design that was sympathetic to its manufacturing history, the walls were finished in grey polished plaster to provide a suitable backdrop for the space. She also had many reclaimed elements from local reclamation yards, which needed to work with the scheme.
To complement the buildings’ oak beams and the reclaimed marble-topped French pastry table, Morris incorporated a range of contrasting materials in a deliberately mismatched, unfitted style, including polished plaster, rough sawn timber veneer, a patinated metallic finish, stainless steel, polished concrete and bookmatched oak veneer.
The combination of natural and manufactured materials creates an industrial yet homely vibe and has been executed with real skill and attention to detail to make this an award-winning kitchen.
