The timeless essence of natural timber is epitomised in these three Schmidt kitchen collections

It is a rarity to find one kitchen material or design which can suit every taste, from the ultra-contemporary art lovers, to those with a penchant for traditional country-kitchen-inspired styles, but one natural material can transcend design boundaries and be used to great effect in every scheme – wood. Wooden designs are packed full of character and charm and encapsulate a blend of natural gold, brown and white hues that create a welcoming warmth, perfectly suited to the kitchen.

French furniture experts Schmidt have been working with wood, in its many forms, for more than 80 years and knows how to make effective use of the material’s versatility and natural artisan appeal. Here are just a few of the company’s popular wooden kitchen collections…

Major impact

The Major range features a contemporary handleless design, with linear details that enhance the islands symmetry and create a monolithic effect. It is shown above in a cool Pastel Oak that subtly jars against the black steel staircase and stone flooring, while maintaining an overall light, modern tone.

For an earthy, rustic twist, the Strato kitchen is a perfect choice. It can be paired with the company’s Lagune cabinetry, finished in a high gloss Kashmir Grey, creating an interesting balance between the Strato island’s Rizzato (wood effect) cladding and the neutral grey that exemplifies the mixed materials, rough-luxe trend.

Scarlet letter

The Scarlett collection leans toward a more traditional aesthetic, with in-frame doors, simple bar handles and optional integrated wine racks. The kitchen works excellently in the company’s pale Mink colour, creating a desirable country-kitchen-style aesthetic, while warmth is injected through the raw wooden worktop and flooring.
