Glamour vs retro vs modernism – this year’s monochrome trend isn’t always black and white

Monochrome is massive at the moment, but it isn’t always just black and white, this style is much more versatile than you may imagine. We spoke to the style experts at bathroom brand Ripples to find out how we can work this seemingly simple style into the bathroom. Here are some key facts:

Modern monochrome elements can craft all manner of styles, so there’s always something to suit your taste. Ripples’ newly released collections are the perfect example that no matter your style, monochrome products can be the perfect pick.

Contemporary – for a clean, contemporary and minimalist aesthetic, consider the Yumo collection. The furniture’s strict lines and predominantly white palette will create a simple, breathable and spa-like feel, while the integrated LEDs add a touch of luxury.

Retro and eclectic – the new Encaustic tiles from Ripples will help add visual interest to even the smallest of bathroom suites. Their heavily patterned aesthetic is reminiscent of retro styles, while mix and matching the patterns can create a characterful look, perfectly suited to the eclecticism trend.

Glamour – though simple, monochrome is a perfect choice for creating a glamour-focus, luxurious bathroom suite. The new-look Diva collection is shown here (featured) in a combination of deep grey and black, while the interesting geometric pattern on the basin unit brings the space to life, lifting the monochromatic palette from simple to truly sophisticated.

Sian Funning, Designer at Ripples Bournemouth, commented: “Whether you’re looking for the traditional styling of victoriana, the clean crisp lines of the contemporary, or even the eye-catching patterns of the swinging sixties, a monochrome scheme lends a versatility perfect for effortlessly achieving the design you’re dreaming of.”
