Karen Barcoo shows us how to create beautiful bathrooms, following her favourite 2018 trends

Your bathroom should be a place of perfect tranquillity and that means looks are important! We’ve spoken to Karen Barcoo of Catalano UK to discuss her three favourite trends of 2018, and how to create a beautiful, serene bathroom scheme.

“Homeowners are becoming more confident with their designs and are looking for ways to experiment. Last year Catalano introduced coloured ceramics in pastel greens, blues and greys and, for those who want a really bold statement, gloss black. 2018 will see the demand for colours grow steeply and as well as ceramics, colour will also be introduced through brassware and furniture in gloss, matt and textured finishes. I predict that the 2018 pantone of the year will be used extensively as an easy and dramatic update. In a white bathroom, the violet shade could be used to paint one bold wall or to add a touch of the colour with towels or accessories to give your bathroom an instant update that is bang on trend. Black will also be very popular as it is ideal for both traditional art deco bathrooms as well as contemporary monochrome spaces.”

“The luxury styling seen in boutique hotels will continue to influence customers to replicate elements of the bathroom they have enjoyed using during their hotel stay, in their own homes. Where space allows we will see double sinks and freestanding baths incorporated in new bathrooms. Luxury will also extend to cloakrooms where I anticipate a growing demand for vanity basins, as people start to realise these options are much smaller and space saving than they once imagined.”

Making Life easier

“With more and more people being time-poor, homeowners are looking for solutions to make their lives easier, and so anything that can solve the problem of storage will be an instant winner. Additionally, with our very busy modern lives, consumers want bathrooms that need minimal maintenance combined with designer looks and high quality. Catalano ceramics all have Cataglaze as standard, which makes surfaces bacteria resistant and easier to clean. Catalano Newflush WCs epitomise practical yet beautiful design with a rimless pan and flushing technology that facilitates cleaning. Easy cleaning solutions save time and improve hygiene and this will continue to be of importance.”
