The Elevating Dishwasher by Mohsen Jafari Malek that epitomises space-saving

With both space-saving and ergonomics in mind, the Elevating Dishwasher brings the subject of washing up right to the surface…

There have been various different takes on the humble dishwasher over the years. Dishwashers that fit in drawers or which are built into the worksurface have both been manufactured, although neither has challenged the dominance of the conventional ‘front door’ design.

The Elevating Dishwasher takes things in an altogether different direction – namely, up! The concept design is the work of Iranian design students Mohsen Jafari Malek and Behzad Taheri. Malek explains that the thinking behind it was inspired by the dual factors of space restricted kitchen and the need to make the process of loading and unloading the dishwasher more ergonomic for an ageing population.

The top basket can be raised to countertop level to be loaded or emptied, and then the machine can be raised further to access the lower basket.
