The kitchen of this cottage in Petersham shows exactly why we love dark, earthy colours

Tall, dark and dreamy – this kitchen scheme by Devol showcases why deep, dark interiors are making a huge impact in home trends.

This sweet cottage, located in Petersham – just outside of London – is set in a very private location, and boasts endless character alongside lush green surroundings. The kitchen itself was very carefully considered and ensured that original elements – such as the wooden chimney breast around the cooker – were kept, to add character to the room and pay homage to the property’s heritage.

The vintage central island is surrounded by cabinetry from Devol’s standard Shaker collection; it’s finished in a dusky Pantry Blue and features Bella Brass hardware that adds warmth to the dark colours and pulls together the deep blues and warm golden-browns of the wooden beams. Adding to the warmer selection of colours in this room, the Iroko worktops and copper sink both boast ambient golden hues, while making a welcome change from the popular cold stone work surfaces.

Practically, the fridges and appliances are neatly hidden away behind large Shaker cupboards, which ensures the colour scheme is kept consistent.

The blend of beautiful blue and black hues make the space appear as if you’re walking into a snug kitchen cave, that embraces a holistic tone, with a scattering of natural herbs and plants and a duo of pendant lights that add a dash of glamour to this rich and rustic look.
