Elegant yet eye-catching, this pretty pea green scheme at London’s Khoollect headquarters is the perfect space for celebrity chef, Rachel Khoo, to cook up a storm!
Square, high-shine tiles from Mexican tile shop, Milagros, create a sweet splashback for the sink area, which sits perfectly against the Iroko wood worktops – which were sourced by Rachel herself, having reclaimed them from a school. Intense sanding and oiling gave the reclaimed surfaces a smart, polished finish, that works wonderfully in the country kitchen.
Aged Verdigris Brass Classic handles, crafted at deVOL’s Cotes Mill studio neatly balance the warmth of the wooden worktops with the cool pea green cabinetry, pulling the scheme together. The mixture of old and new styles makes the kitchen feel “less ‘brand new kitchen!’ more ‘nicely settled and at home’,” quotes the company.
Rachel plans to use this kitchen for all her Khoollect promotions, photoshoots and filming and so the layout had to be perfect! A tall appliance cupboard houses the integrated oven, ensuring it is within easy reach from the island and preparation spaces. While traditional Mayan taps, from Perrin & Rowe, a fluted deVOL ceramic sink and a gas hob integrated into the central island, provide all the functional essentials. Putting everything in close proximity to the island was essential for filming, as it means Rachel can stay in frame at all times.
Instead of the traditional ‘chef kitchen’ look, though, Rachel wanted a more homely, eclectic aesthetic. Four simple Shaker shelves – two of which with handy brass hanging rails – provide the perfect place to store trinkets, storage pots and accessories, to give the space the desired ‘homely’ look.deVOL | devolkitchens.co.uk
